Women of Wolt – Mireia, creative coordinator

To celebrate International Women’s Day, this interview series highlights some of the women who make Wolt, well – Wolt. The series includes Wolt staff, restaurant partners and couriers partners.

In this post, we’re introducing Mireia, who is the Creative Coordinator in the User Acquisition team, based in Wolt’s HQ in Helsinki, Finland.

What is your story?

I come from a family that has moved around a lot. Back in the day, my parents left their hometown to work further away from where their families live. They have always had an open mind about places, cultures and opportunities globally, and that has influenced and encouraged me and my brother to live in several places around Europe. My brother was the first one of us to venture up North, as he moved to Helsinki some years ago. I ended up following him about 3.5 years ago and I am very much enjoying this period of my life in Finland.

What do you do at Wolt?

I coordinate creatives, which means I take care of the production for all the performance marketing assets across all 23 countries. I work with the local marketing teams as well as our brand and marketing teams at the HQ in Helsinki.

How long have you been at Wolt?

I joined Wolt over 2 years ago.

What got you to join Wolt?

Something that I’ve always loved about Finland is the local startup scene. It’s vibrant and there’s lot of interesting companies rising. Before Wolt, I worked for a different local startup for about a year. I felt I needed something else, and wanted to look for a consumer facing company. When I started interviewing and meeting the people, Wolt just felt like the right place – a company that was already growing very promisingly back then with a great culture and a lot of drive. It felt like the right place when I joined and still does today.

What’s the best part of your work?

There’s two best things. Firstly, I get to be creative as that is essential for my personality. I’m not the type who can do the same thing every day and be told what exactly to do. I love the creative side of my work. Secondly, I get to interact with a lot of people every single day. I’m constantly talking with campaign managers, many of the marketing managers in our 23 countries, plus the brand team. I enjoy that I get to work with a lot of different people across Wolt.

What advice would you give to anyone considering joining Wolt?

With the hypergrowth that we’re going through at Wolt comes a lot of work and a lot of things happening simultaneously. So I would advise them to get ready to feel stressed sometimes. But at the same time, it is very rewarding to work with super motivated people around you and feel that we are on the same boat, paddling in the same direction. So, with hyper growth comes a fast pace, but it does also pay off.

Anything you’d like us to mention with regard to International Women’s Day, being a woman in your industry or at Wolt?

Much along this year’s theme for International Women’s Day, I think it’s important that we speak up. Although things in Finland are good on the equality-front, it doesn’t mean that things are perfect. Overall, I think society needs to be more female, embracing everything that comes with womanhood. Although 51% of the population are female, this world has largely been built by men, and it’s time for us to say “hey we’re also here and we need to think about society and constructs so that they also represent us”.

The theme of International Women’s Day 2021 is #ChooseToChallenge (quoting IWD website): “We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge.”

If you want to support the cause, post a photo of your hand raised with the hashtag #ChooseToChallenge and take action to call out inequality – not only today, but every day as well.
